Description

Delicious and sweet candied yams that bring warmth and comfort during winter gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 4 medium yams (sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the yams into 1/2 inch thick rounds.
  3. Melt the butter in a large mixing bowl over gentle heat or microwave, then stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Add the sliced yams to the bowl and toss until coated.
  5. Arrange the yams in a baking dish and pour the remaining butter mixture over them.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, basting occasionally, until caramelized and tender.
  8. Serve warm.

Notes

For a vegan option, substitute with dairy-free butter. You can prep yams a day in advance.
