- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Combine the warm milk and yeast in a small bowl and let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the melted butter, sugars, and salt to the yeast mixture, stirring gently.
- Incorporate the flour gradually, mixing until a soft dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes on a floured surface.
- Cover the dough with a clean towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Roll out the dough into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
- Cut the dough into strips and twist them before placing on a prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and aromatic.
- Whisk together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and enough milk for a glaze, then drizzle over warm twists before serving.
Notes
Melted coconut oil can be used as a dairy-free alternative. You can also freeze the dough after the first rise for later baking.
