Description
A magnificent air fryer blooming onion, golden and crisp, bursting with flavor and perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large sweet onion
- 2 1⁄2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup water
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil in a spray bottle
Instructions
- Start by expertly cutting the outer skin from the onion, leaving the root intact. Carefully slice the onion into a blooming shape, making wedges without cutting all the way through.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper until well-combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and water until frothy.
- Begin the coating process by dipping the cut onion into the egg mixture.
- Next, transfer your onion to the flour mixture, ensuring it gets coated thoroughly.
- Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (187°C). Place the coated onion into the basket and spray it generously with oil.
- Cook in the air fryer for about 20-25 minutes or until crispy and golden brown.
- Once done, allow your blooming onion to cool slightly, then prepare to serve.
Notes
Feel free to customize with different spices or coatings, and consider serving with garlic aioli or spicy ranch dressing.
