- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold
- 1/2 cup milk, warm
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg, for egg wash
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Roll out the cold butter between two sheets of parchment paper into a rectangle.
- Roll out the dough into a larger rectangle and place the butter in the center.
- Fold the dough over the butter and seal the edges.
- Roll out the dough again and fold it into thirds, then refrigerate for another 30 minutes.
- Repeat the rolling and folding process two more times.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Let it rise for 1 hour, then brush with egg wash.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- Ensure the butter is very cold for the best flaky texture.
- For a sweeter loaf, add chocolate chips or dried fruit.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
