Description

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1/2 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour and water in a large mixing bowl and stir until no dry flour remains. Allow the mixture to rest for about 30 minutes.
  2. Sprinkle the sourdough starter and salt over the dough. Mix until fully integrated, using your hands to blend the textures.
  3. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 8-12 hours.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
  5. Place the shaped loaf onto floured parchment paper and let it rise for an additional 1-2 hours.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) with a Dutch oven inside.
  7. Transfer the dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover with the lid, and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool the loaf on a wire rack for at least an hour before slicing.

Notes

This sourdough can be made ahead by mixing the dough at night. Store in a paper bag at room temperature for up to three days, or freeze for longer storage. Let it thaw and reheat for best results.
