Description

Delight in these crunchy Five of May Churro Bites, coated with cinnamon-sugar and paired with rich chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • Oil (for frying)
  • Chocolate or caramel sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Bring it to a boil: In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the water, butter, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium until it reaches a rolling boil.
  2. Mix and form dough: Remove the saucepan from the heat and quickly stir in the flour. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
  3. Incorporate eggs: Let dough cool for about 5 minutes. Begin adding the eggs one at a time, mixing vigorously after each addition.
  4. Prepare to fry: In a deep skillet, pour oil to a depth of about 2 inches and heat it to 350°F.
  5. Pipe into oil: Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small portions into the hot oil, frying in batches.
  6. Fry until golden: Fry churro bites for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them.
  7. Roll in sugar: While warm, roll churro bites in a sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  8. Serve: Arrange on a platter and serve with chocolate or caramel sauce.

Notes

You can prepare the dough in advance and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours. If using an air fryer, preheat to 350°F and grease lightly.
