Description
A cozy dish that combines the classic flavors of French onion soup with hearty pasta, featuring caramelized onions, garlic, and rich Gruyère cheese.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz pasta
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Caramelize the onions: In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, stirring occasionally, and cook for about 15-20 minutes until they turn a beautiful golden brown and smell divine.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for one more minute.
- Create the sauce: Pour in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Simmer gently for 5-10 minutes.
- Combine pasta and sauce: Fold in the cooked pasta and stir in the grated Gruyère cheese until melted.
- Serve and garnish: Dish it out into bowls and sprinkle fresh parsley on top. Enjoy while hot!
Notes
For a vegetarian version, use vegetable broth instead of beef broth. You can caramelize the onions a day ahead to deepen their flavor.
