Description

Rich chocolate brownies with a creamy, gooey layer of caramel made from sweetened condensed milk.


Ingredients

  • 14 oz (396 g) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup (95 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5 g) salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C) and line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the unsalted butter in a mixing bowl.
  3. Stir in the granulated sugar while the butter is warm.
  4. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, whisking thoroughly.
  5. Add the vanilla extract.
  6. Whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt in a separate bowl.
  7. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  8. Pour 3/4 of the sweetened condensed milk into the batter, gently folding it in.
  9. Layer the batter in the prepared baking pan, drizzling with the remaining condensed milk.
  10. Swirl the caramel through the batter with a knife.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
  12. Allow to cool for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares.

Notes

Make-ahead: Prepare the batter ahead of time and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. You can also use an air fryer instead of an oven.
