Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup fruit jam (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Combine the yeast and warm milk in a small bowl and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Pour in the yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter, stirring until a dough begins to form.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.

  8. Heat oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C) and fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  9. Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Make-ahead: Prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate. Fry fresh donuts in the morning.
