- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup fruit jam (e.g., raspberry or strawberry)
- Powdered sugar for dusting
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Combine the yeast and warm milk in a small bowl and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Pour in the yeast mixture, eggs, and melted butter, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Roll out the risen dough to about 1/2 inch thickness, then cut into circles with a cookie cutter.
- Fill half of the circles with a spoonful of jam, then top with the remaining circles and seal the edges.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F (175°C) and fry the donuts for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the donuts with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Make-ahead: Prepare the dough the night before and refrigerate. Fry fresh donuts in the morning.
