Description
A thick, rectangular Sicilian pizza featuring a crunchy crust topped with rich tomato sauce, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, mix warm water with sugar and sprinkle in the active dry yeast. Let it sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
- Mix the dough: Add the flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture, stirring until a rough dough forms.
- Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently until smooth, approximately 5 minutes.
- Let it rise: Place the dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm location until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
- Prepare for baking: Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- Shape the dough: Once risen, gently punch down the dough before rolling it out into a rectangular shape. Then, place it into a greased pizza pan.
- Top your pizza: Spread the crushed tomatoes over the dough and sprinkle with oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Then, dollop ricotta cheese across the surface and ensure an even scattering of mozzarella.
- Bake: Slide the pizza into the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and cheese bubbles enticingly.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from the oven, adorn with fresh basil, slice into squares, and share!
Notes
Let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free environment for the best results. Use your hands to spread out the dough for a personal touch.
