Description

Delicious and festive red velvet cinnamon rolls perfect for Valentine’s Day.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and spread with brown sugar and cinnamon mixture.
  6. Roll the dough tightly and cut into rolls.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While baking, mix cream cheese and powdered sugar to make the frosting.
  10. Once the rolls are done, spread the frosting on top and serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a splash of vanilla extract to the frosting.
  • These rolls can be made ahead of time and refrigerated overnight before baking.
  • Feel free to add chocolate chips for extra sweetness.
