Description

Scotch Pie is a traditional Scottish meat pie, known for its flaky crust and savory filling, often enjoyed as a hearty snack or meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb minced lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup beef stock
  • 2 sheets of shortcrust pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for glazing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a pan, sauté the chopped onion until soft.
  3. Add the minced meat, salt, pepper, nutmeg, and cinnamon, cooking until browned.
  4. Stir in the beef stock and let it simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Roll out the shortcrust pastry and cut into circles for the base and top.
  6. Place the meat mixture in the center of the pastry circles and cover with another circle.
  7. Seal the edges and make a small hole on top for steam to escape.
  8. Brush with beaten egg and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes or peas.
  • Can be made ahead and frozen before baking.
