- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Combine 1 cup of sourdough discard, 1/2 cup of warm water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of instant yeast in a large bowl. Let sit for about 5 minutes.
- Add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil, 3 cups of flour, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Divide the dough into 6-8 equal pieces and shape them into round buns.
- Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Let them rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove and let cool on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, mix in herbs or spices. Can substitute vegetable oil with olive oil or melted butter.
