Strawberry French Toast Casserole

Description

A luscious breakfast dish with ripe strawberries and creamy custard, baked to perfection and topped with powdered sugar.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of soft bread (French or challah)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
  3. Cut the bread into one-inch cubes and layer half of them in the prepared dish.
  4. Layer half of the sliced strawberries on top of the bread.
  5. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
  6. Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread and strawberries.
  7. Add the remaining bread cubes and top with the rest of the strawberries.
  8. Pour the remaining egg mixture on top.
  9. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 120 minutes (or overnight).
  10. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  11. Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.

Notes

Prepare the casserole the night before to allow flavors to meld. You can customize with different fruits or add ins.
