Description
A luscious breakfast dish with ripe strawberries and creamy custard, baked to perfection and topped with powdered sugar.
Ingredients

- 1 loaf of soft bread (French or challah)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Cut the bread into one-inch cubes and layer half of them in the prepared dish.
- Layer half of the sliced strawberries on top of the bread.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon until smooth.
- Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread and strawberries.
- Add the remaining bread cubes and top with the rest of the strawberries.
- Pour the remaining egg mixture on top.
- Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 120 minutes (or overnight).
- Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Let cool slightly, dust with powdered sugar, and serve.
Notes
Prepare the casserole the night before to allow flavors to meld. You can customize with different fruits or add ins.
