Description

Homemade Texas Roadhouse Rolls are fluffy with a golden-brown exterior, served warm with a delightful cinnamon-honey butter.


Ingredients

  • 4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 cups scalded milk, cooled to lukewarm
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 7 to 8 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for cinnamon butter)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for cinnamon butter)
  • 1/4 cup honey (for cinnamon butter)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for cinnamon butter)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar in warm water. Let it sit until foamy (5-10 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, mix together lukewarm milk, remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt until smooth.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and 3 cups of flour. Blend until smooth.
  4. Incorporate remaining flour, adding 1 cup at a time until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  6. Punch down the dough and roll out onto a floured surface to 1/2 inch thick.
  7. Cut into 2-inch squares and place on greased baking sheets.
  8. Cover and let rise again until doubled (about 45 minutes).
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. While baking, whisk together softened butter, powdered sugar, honey, and cinnamon until fluffy.
  11. Brush baked rolls with additional melted butter and serve warm with cinnamon-honey butter.

Notes

For best results, ensure your yeast is active. You can also prepare the dough in advance and let it rise in the refrigerator overnight.
