Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheese and diced ham (if using).
- Gradually add in the milk, mixing just until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently.
- Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick.
- Cut into wedges or use a biscuit cutter to shape into rounds.
- Place your scones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
